Talking about the IRS affair on television, former White House senior advisor, David Plouffe, passed it off as the work of a few employees who "did a dumb thing."

David Axlerod, another former Obama advisor, also hit the Sunday morning circuit and called the IRS actions, "an idiotic thing to do."

No need, then, for a special counsel and not really something to get all excited about. No malicious intent.  Just your usual bureaucratic bumbling. Stuff happens, say Messrs. Plouffe and Axlerod.  Let's move on.  

Still, their former boss is on record as calling these "dumb" and/or "idiotic" actions "outrageous."

Most Americans, as the polls indicate, will go with the President on this one. 

But stupidity is always a good defense.
