Paradise for the most dedicated supporters of President Obama would look like an eternal campaign. It would, in fact, be an eternal campaign. The speeches about hope and change would never end and there would be no messy governing to attend to. One could promise passionately, to make the Department of Veterans Affairs the envy of the world and say things like:
“When a veteran is denied health care, we are all dishonored. When 400,000 veterans are stuck on a waiting list for claims, we need a new sense of urgency in this country. And when we’ve got young veterans of a misguided war in Iraq sleeping on the streets of our cities and towns, we need a change in Washington.”
That’s campaigning and that’s what Organizing for America was meant to do. Keep on campaigning, even after the candidate has won the election and was in Washington where he could make good on those promises.
It was, as Philip Bump of the Washington Post reports:
… designed to essentially be the Obama presidential campaign, made eternal. "Obama For America" became the non-profit "Organizing For Action" early last year, with the hope of continuing the campaign's energy, organizing, and fundraising prowess to generate support for the president's policy positions.
Now, the organization has:
… told donors that it will stop requesting large contributions this year, even as it has reportedly shed half of its staff.
Even without that news, it's not clear how much longer OFA will survive.
How will we get along without it?

Obama for America (OFA) has transitioned into the apparently independent 501(c)(4) non-profit Organizing for Action. The group has retained Obama’s original website (BarackObama.com) and Twitter account (@BarackObama). And although the president's role in this new organization is not clear, his name and picture are featured prominently by OFA.

Obama for America continued its metamorphosis this week into Organizing for Action (OFA), an independent organization that will advocate for various "progressive" causes, including immigration reform and gun control. The BarackObama.com website, home of the presidential campaign of Barack Obama, has been changing as well, but the transition has not been without its missteps.
