Congressman Jim Moran believes that members of Congress do not make enough money. It’s the sort of thing that, even if you believe it, you shouldn’t say. But then, Moran has never been known for his manners or discretion.
As Hannah Hess of Roll Call reports, Moran is saying:
“Our pay has been frozen for three years and we’re planning on freezing it a fourth year. … A lot of members can’t even afford to live decently in Washington.”
Nor can many of the people who work there or, indeed, live there. To include people with a lot harder jobs, no staff to ease their burdens, and no prospects of a cushy K Street gig when once they have laid down their burdens of public service.
